HEARTLANDS REFUGEE FINE ART PRIZE WINNER EXHIBITING @ POINT NEPEAN

I attended the opening of a beautiful exhibition of cut and reassembled coloured papers at Parks Victoria’s Visitors Centre Point Nepean yesterday to view artist Ma Late’s work as the winner of the 2011 Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize for 2011.

The exhibition is a collaboration between AMES, (formerly known as the Adult Multicultural Education Services) Multicultural Arts Victoria and supported by Parks Victoria and VicHealth.

The prize enabled Ma Late to take up an artist residency at Werribee Park for 3 months to produce works for the Refugee Art Prize .  This opportunity extends her experience as a professional artist and provides much deserved exposure of her work.

Originally from Burma, Karen artist Ma Late spent twenty years in a refugee camp in Thailand after being forced to flee due to depredations of the Burmese Army

The exhibition will run at Point Nepean until April 15 2012.

‘HEARTLANDS’ REFUGEE ART PRIZE @ POINT NEPEAN

A sea change for Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize winner!  Artist Ma Late, winner of the 2011 Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize, will bring her first solo exhibition to the Point Nepean National Park from 16 February – 15 April 2012.

It is a rare and exciting opportunity for Ma Late to further extend her experience as a professional artist and provide much deserved exposure of her work. When not making art, Ma Late studies English with AMES in Werribee and spends time with her husband and four children.

Inaugurated in 2010, the Prize represents works by professional, amateur and emerging artists and recognises the important contribution that refugees make to the culture and social fabric of Victoria.

Parks Victoria supports this art prize through its initiative ‘Healthy Parks Healthy People’which aims to connect people with parks in different ways.
